Casa Girasole is a stunning Italian villa that was built over a hundred years ago from the stones of a 12th century village and stands on a promontory amongst sunflower fields, olive groves and vineyards.
The house has been lovingly restored and furnished by its owners for their own family and guests. The villa was designed by a well-known Italian architect whose work in the area has been featured in "Architectural Digest" and several books. Casa Girasole has been published in important publications like "Restoring a Home in Italy" by Elizabeth Minchilli. The house is decorated with English and French antiques and Oriental rugs; the emphasis is on style and comfort. There are terracotta floors, high wood-beamed ceilings and original art. The spacious kitchen is the focal point with a raised fireplace that is perfect for cooking and warming up on cold evenings.
The pool (meausuring 12 x 5 metres) is surrounded by a landscaped gardens with hedges, roses and wooden fencing. There is plenty of natural shade plus a large canvas umbrella and chaise lounges. The house has an uncomplicated yet flexible layout and is therefore perfect for two families and even additional overnight guests. It is also ideal for a romantic retreat. There are four marble-topped tables in the gardens, a fruit orchard and a herb garden. Here, as everywhere in Italy, it is all about the pleasures of fine food and wine, which are meant to be savoured and enjoyed: either under the kitchen pergola draped with flowering trumpet vines, by the pool or at one of two indoor tables. The outdoor barbeque is an open stone grill, Italian style, with a ready supply of logs that can be used outdoors or to stoke one of the three indoor fireplaces or the cast iron stove.
Todi is only 10 minutes drive from the house. There are tennis courts and a riding stable nearby. Most other Umbrian towns are roughly equidistant from Todi, most no more than 40 minutes by car. To name a few Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, Spello, Deruta and Perugia. Much of Umbria is still unspoiled and the countryside retains an authenticity that some areas have lost due to crowds of tourists. This stunning Italian villa near Todi, is in a perfect location for touring Umbria as well as some parts of Tuscany.
A wonderful local cook and housekeeper is available upon request.
